Feline arterial thromboembolism (FATE) is often seen as a fatal disease, even though survival rates of 30% are generally noted across various studies. This session will review the pathophysiology underlying FATE and will discuss updates in the management of FATE, including thrombolytic therapy, dual oral anticoagulant/antiplatelet therapy, and other therapies that may decrease ischemia reperfusion injury and mortality.
Learning Objectives:
Understand and draw the pathophysiology behind FATE and ischemia reperfusion injury.
List risk factors for the development of FATE.
Describe various treatment protocols and drug mechanisms of action for the management of FATE.
