Presentation Description / Summary: Interventional echocardiography has recently been recognized as a new subspecialty by the American Society of Echocardiography, further solidifying the critical role of advanced transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) during transcatheter cardiac interventions in people. Following a similar path, TEE has also become valuable in veterinary patients undergoing cardiac interventions. However, a comprehensive technical desctiption and general standards of structure-/procedure-specific TEE exams are lacking in veterinary cardiology.
The session aims to provide: 1. Technical descriptions on how to perform TEE for a variety of interventional procedures 2. Real-world case examples to emphasize the value of TEE during transcatheter interventions. 3. Literature review on interventional TEE in both dogs and human.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, the participants will know the basic principles and technical aspects of a TEE exam.
Upon completion, the participants will know current human and veterinary literature on interventional TEE.
Upon completion, the participants will understand the value of TEE from the case examples shown in this session.
