Presentation Description / Summary: Catheter ablation in dogs has primarily been used to target supraventricular tachycardias, such as orthodromic atrioventricular reciprocating tachycardia and focal atrial tachycardia. While catheter ablation is routinely employed in human medicine to also treat lone atrial fibrillation and ventricular arrhythmias, unknown mechanisms and procedural challenges have hampered adoption in veterinary medicine. This presentation delves into insights gleaned from initial clinical experience in canine patients, highlighting mechanistic discoveries, procedural techniques, challenges encountered, and outcomes achieved in treating these arrhythmias. Through these real-world examples, veterinary professionals will gain a deeper understanding of the potential for catheter ablation as a therapeutic option for atrial fibrillation and ventricular arrhythmias in dogs.
