This session will discuss the role of biomarkers in understanding molecular pathways of pulmonary hypertension. We will review the use of natriuretic peptides (BNP, NT-proBNP) in current risk assessment for pulmonary hypertension and discuss emerging biomarkers that may have clinical utility. Finally, biomarkers are discussed as potential therapeutic and clinical targets in pulmonary hypertension.
Learning Objectives:
Discuss the potential role and benefits of biomarkers in understanding pulmonary vascular disease
Review evidence for natriuretic peptides in diagnosis, evaluation and risk assessment in pulmonary hypertension
Evaluate the potential for biomarkers in prediction models in pulmonary hypertension and consider the role of biomarkers as therapeutic targets in pulmonary hypertension.
