Presentation Description / Summary: Target therapies (tyrosine kinases inhibitors) are available for mast cell tumor treatment. However it is difficult to predict the response of each case or what treatment is best for a specific patient. C-kit sequencing may give information to help us to decide what treatment option is more likely to be effective for each case. The results of a series of cases that were sequenced (exons 8 to 18) will be presented including novel candidate mutations associated with mast cell tumors and resistance to pharmacological treatments.
Learner Outcomes: Review mast cell tumor diagnosis and staging. Understand potential uses and limitations of genetic tests in the diagnosis and management of mast cell tumors.
Learning Objectives:
konw KIT mutations potentially present in canine mast cell tumors and understand their potential role in the treament
recognize the genetic variablity of canine mast cell tumors and its impliaciotion in the clinical course of the disease
know how new mutatiosn may affecto to the protein finction and explain resistance to therapy leading to a personalized treatment
