Presentation Description / Summary: There has recently been increased recognition of multi-drug resistant organisms (MDROs) in small animal practice, necessitating a change in culture with how we view these organisms and their role in disease. Practically, there are considerations and precautions to take relevant to infection prevention and control (IPC) which are important to limit risk to other veterinary patients, but also veterinary workers who come into contact with these organisms. This session will focus on IPC efforts in the context of different MDROs.
Learner Outcomes: 1. Identify core principles of infection control in the veterinary clinical setting 2. Describe differences in infection control measures specific to different MDROs (e.g., ESBLs, MRSP, CRE)
Learning Objectives:
Identify core principles of infection prevention and control in the veterinary clinical setting
Describe differences in infection prevention and control mesaures specicfic to different MDROs (e.g. ESBLs, MRSP, CRE)
Recognize the link between infection prevention and control principles and antimicrobial stewardship
