Following veterinary school Dr. McElroy completed a Master's thesis on the structure of the filum terminale in horses with HERDA. She then spent 3 years as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Brown University Neurosurgery Department studying human patients with both tethered cord syndrome and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. She is now a PhD candidate at UMASS Chan Medical School where she is developing a gene therapy for a rare type of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and additionally works part time in private practice.
