Dr McCarthy attended CSU receiving his DVM in 1969, after two years in general practice he returned to CSU for the graduate program in Surgery becoming a ACVS diplomate in 1978 and earning a PhD in i981. Returning to private practice becming involved with endoscopy in 1982 that grew to encompase all aspects of flexible and rigid endoscopy including diagnostic, interventional, minimmally invasive surgical, and arthroscopic applications. Dr McCarthy has published many jurnal articles and book chapters and three books, two editions of "Veterinary Endoscopy for the Small Animal Practitioner" as editor, plus "Veterinary Arthrosocpy for the Small Animal Practitioner" as the sole author. He has traveled to teach in 21 states and 16 countries.
