This presentation is designed to equip veterinary staff members with tools needed to fight antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Regardless of your position - as specialists, general practitioners, or technicians - you can help combat AMR within your practice environment. AMR is commonly viewed as a "prescriber problem," but every veterinary professional - even "non-prescribers" such as technicians - can improve the stewardship of their practice in a number of ways. Optimizing antibiotic use is an impactful antimicrobial stewardship measure, so we will discuss practical ways for veterinarians to improve their prescribing practices. We will also, however, discuss ways by which veterinarians and non-prescribing professionals can improve stewardship throughout their hospital or other practice environment.
Learning Objectives:
Explain the current understanding of antimicrobial resistance.
Learn practical ways to improve your own antimicrobial stewardship (for patients in your direct care).
Generate ideas to improve stewardship across your hospital (for patients not directly in your care).
