Presentation Description / Summary: This presentation will offer a comprehensive review of coagulation physiology, traditional coagulations assays and viscoelastic testing focusing on the available literature in large animal species. This presentation will also review the most common bleeding disorders described in horses, offering clinical examples and treatment options, including medications available for different cases/ disease. For each medication we will review its mechanism of action, focusing on the data available for large animals (if any). Comparisons will be made with the gold standard treatments reported in human medicine, offering input for further research in large animals.
