In this presentation, the often challenging clinical problem of gut dysmotilty will be discussed from the perspectives of an internist and criticalist highlight commonalities and perhaps differences in their approach with this condition. A review of the pathogenesis, diagnostic approach and management strategies currently employed in small animals will be followed by discussion of emerging therapies, comparisons with human medicine and possible future direction with managing patients with gut dysmotility.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion, participants will be able to describe the pathogenesis and contributing factors to the development of gut dysmotily in dogs and cats
Upon completion, participants will be able to outline the diagnostic approach for confirming gut dysmotility in companion animals
Upon completeion, participants will be able to describe the therapeutic options, developments and overall strategies for managing companion animals with gut dysmotility
