Presentation Description / Summary: This talk will focus on the history of relative supersaturation (RSS) and its use in nutritional management of urolithiasis. We will talk about how RSS is defined and the nutritional biochemistry and methodology behind it, as well as look at how tools to assess RSS were originally developed and have been refined over the years. We will review research studies involving RSS, and consider diet formulation specifics for managing and manipulating RSS. We will then end with a discussion of clinical management of cases where RSS might be a factor.
Learning Objectives:
Understand the definition and methodology of relative supersaturation (RSS)
Have an understanding of the use of RSS in pet food formulation
Be able to apply RSS in clinical case management when appropriate
