Despite vaccination being a core means of disease prevention, hesitancy and refusal of vaccines has been rising for the last 30 years. The reasons for refusal and risks this poses to humans are well-established, but the link between hesitancy toward human vaccines and pet vaccines has been minimally explored. In this session we explore the most common reasons for vaccine refusal based on studies in humans and those listed amongst 330 dog owners surveyed in Wisconsin.
Learning Objectives:
Attendees will be able to define vaccine hesitancy
Attendees will be able to discuss strategies to address vaccine hesitant clients
Attendees will be able to describe the most common reasons for vaccine refusal amongst one subset of dog owners
