Presentation Description / Summary: This session will review commonly used methods to get more information out of cytologic samples than what is available from traditional Romanowski staining. Cases highlighting the use of cytochemical, immunocytochemical and molecular techniques to help identify and characterize neoplastic and infectious entities will be discussed.
Learning Objectives:
Identify the diagnostic utility of cytochemical stains including stains for alkaline phosphatase activity, copper, iron, and infectious agents.
Identify sample requirements for immunocytochemical staining and the diagnostic utility of some of the common ICC markers for epithelial, mesenchymal, histiocytic, mast cell, vascular and other cell types.
