Presentation Description / Summary: Historical context and evolotution of diagnostic nomenclature for the cardiomyopathies are presented and their modern applicability to feline myocardfial diseases are discussed. New developments with regard to changing phenotypes in feline heart disease are introduced. Diagnostic criteria based upon new pathophysiologic findings are covered. Flaws and controversies regarding diagnostic testing, particularly echocardiographic detection and wall thickness and chamber measurements are discussed. The impact of these emerging/changing phenotypes and conditions relative to therapies are demonstrated.
Learner Outcomes: 1. Attendees will learn the pathologic basis uderlying each form of feline myocardial disease, relate these lesions to echocardiographic findings, and improve understanding of clinical aspects of these diseases. 2. Attendees will learn to recognize new trends in structural remodelling that are increasingly identified, and related impact on heretofore classical definitions and categorization of the cardiomyopathies
Learning Objectives:
Learning Outcomes: Upon completion, participants will be able to 1. understand the historical basis underlying identificaiton and development of major forms of feline myocardial disease, 2. characterize and compare phenotypic differences and similarities, as well as as histopathologic features between the cardiomyopathies, and 3. apply these findings to improve clinical diagnostic acutity of feline cardiomyopathies.
